Jim Brickman was born on November 20, 1961, in Shaker Heights, Ohio. Jim was raised in the midwest region of the United States where he learned the art of playing piano at a very young age. Jim's father owned a shoe factory and his mother worked at a music center.

He regards his mother as his first music teacher.

Jim joined the Cleveland Institute of Music and started performing there as well after he started getting comfortable with his talents.

He later completed his college education at Case Western Reserve University where he studied music and businesses. After his days of college, he started his own music advertising company which he named The Brickman Arrangement.
