Anthony Giddens is a British sociologist, best known for his theory of structuration and comprehensive views on contemporary social systems.
He is considered one of the most important figures in modern sociology, having authored over 34 books translated into 29 different languages. Giddens was born and raised in Edmonton, London, to a middle-class family.

He became the first in his family to attend university, graduating from Hull University in 1959 with a degree in sociology and psychology.
